ICE Arrests Surge in New Bedford Area; Fish-House Workers Among Those Detained

ICE detained at least 10 people in the New Bedford area on Monday, September 21 — including at least five men who worked in fish houses in the port and three at a Market Basket — and at least nine more on Tuesday, according to immigration attorney Ondine Sniffin. Video shows a man tackled and tased near Acushnet Avenue. Mayor Jon Mitchell said there was “no indication that any one of them had criminal records beyond minor motor vehicle violations” and that ICE did not notify local police; Gov. Maura Healey demanded that ICE “provide information immediately.” DHS said it “does not discuss ongoing or future operations.”
