ICE arrests surge at Philly airport, including those of a babysitter and a senior citizen

At least 10 people have been arrested by ICE at Philadelphia International Airport since mid-July, immigration advocates say, including a 68-year-old grandmother and a South Philadelphia babysitter, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The babysitter, Iliana Lick, a 30-year-old from Argentina with a pending work-visa application, was detained July 11 as she prepared to fly to Kansas City to watch Argentina play in the World Cup, and is being held in ICE detention in New Mexico, CBS Philadelphia reported. Those arrested at the airport include people originally from Indonesia, India, Ukraine, China, Chile, and Argentina, part of a nationwide push to increase airport arrests that has attorneys warning noncitizens — even those with valid work permits or pending applications — that travel has become risky.
