Despite Pending Asylum Case, ICE Arrests Doral Father at Gas Station

Carlos Hugo Betancur, a Colombian father with a political asylum application pending since January 2023, was detained by ICE on July 8 while pumping gas at a Marathon station in Doral — his daughter was on the phone with him when an officer took the phone. He is being held at the Miramar ICE processing center. ICE says he overstayed his visa; his family says his pending asylum case and work authorization should have protected him.
