ICE Arrests 426 People Across Indiana in Five-Day Operation

ICE arrested 426 people across Indiana between August 30 and September 3 in what it called “Operation Safe Community — Indiana,” but did not confirm the operation publicly until September 16, nearly two weeks after it ended. Most arrests were in the Indianapolis metro area, with others in Columbus and Seymour; ICE said officers worked “in coordination with state and local law enforcement partners” without naming any. Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and Gov. Mike Braun both said they were given no advance notice. Attendance at one west-side Indianapolis school fell from its usual 95% to as low as 40% by September 4, and the Tippecanoe Latino Festival was canceled.
