ICE No Longer Intends to Turn Salt Lake City Warehouse Into a Detention Center, Court Filing Says
Department of Homeland Security officials told Salt Lake City leaders through their attorneys that they “no longer intend to convert” a warehouse the agency purchased earlier in 2026 for $145.4 million into a detention center, according to court documents filed the previous day and reported by the Idaho Capital Sun. Salt Lake City’s mayor had said in March that federal officials described plans for a “mega” facility at the site with capacity for 7,500 to 10,000 people, and publicly opposed it.
