How ICE Uses Local Police Records to Build Cases in Connecticut

ICE obtains local police records by emailing or faxing departments for arrest reports and booking photos, often framing the requests as Freedom of Information Act requests. Nine Connecticut police departments produced records showing contact with federal immigration officials, with New Britain alone receiving more than 20 requests since January 2025 and some departments responding within minutes. The targets ranged from people charged with negligent homicide to people charged with shoplifting.
