How Helping Detectives Led a Florida Woman to ICE Detention
A Colombian woman with a work permit, a U.S.-citizen husband and no criminal record reported her former employer’s insurance fraud to a Florida state detective — and was handcuffed and turned over to ICE when she returned for a follow-up meeting in April. The Marshall Project found Florida has pulled non-traditional agencies into immigration enforcement through 287(g) agreements — including at least 17 colleges and universities and the state lottery department — logging more than 800 immigration stops and arrests since August 2025.
