GEO Group Sues Colorado Over New Detention Center Inspection Law

The GEO Group, operator of the 1,530-bed Aurora ICE Processing Center — Colorado’s only immigration detention center — sued Attorney General Phil Weiser and state and county health officials in federal court on June 8, 2026 over House Bill 26-1276, which requires frequent health and safety inspections at the facility. The company argues the law, signed by Gov. Jared Polis the week before, unconstitutionally asserts state regulatory power over facilities used by the federal government.
