Doctors Say Woman in El Paso ICE Detention Center Urgently Requires Surgery She Is Being Denied

Andrea Pedro Francisco, 23, was scheduled to have surgery to remove an ovarian cyst the size of a lime in February, but ICE detained her four days before the operation and has denied her the surgery in the four months since. Eight OB-GYNs and an emergency physician who reviewed 200 pages of her medical records told the Texas Tribune that she is at “high risk” of a medical emergency and that her treatment amounts to medical malpractice. Emergency responders had rushed her to a hospital from the Camp East Montana detention center near El Paso on Feb. 7.
