Leaked Contract Reveals Dilley Family Detention Center Costs Taxpayers About $15 Million a Month

The Houston Chronicle obtained the operating contract for the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley after CoreCivic’s lawyers accidentally included it as an email attachment. The documents show ICE pays roughly $15 million a month to detain immigrant families at the 2,400-bed facility — about $13.1 million to operate it plus another $2.5 million for medical care. The disclosure came as House Democrats inspected the facility and called for its closure.
