DHS Reverses Course, Revives Roxbury Detention Center Plan — Roxbury, NJ
Days after telling a court on June 29 that it no longer intended to convert a Route 46 warehouse in Roxbury Township into an ICE detention center — a retreat Gov. Mikie Sherrill hailed as “a major victory” — DHS reversed course, confirming in a July 10 notice that it “intends to move forward with plans to consider the retrofitting” of the site. The federal government bought the 470,000-square-foot warehouse for $129.3 million in February 2026 and wants to house up to 1,500 detainees there; the state and township argue required environmental reviews were never conducted.
