Chicago Woman Shot by Border Patrol Sues Federal Government, Presents Evidence for Criminal Charges
Marimar Martinez, a U.S. citizen, filed a federal lawsuit alleging negligence, battery, false arrest and malicious prosecution over her October 4, 2025 shooting by Border Patrol agent Charles Exum during Operation Midway Blitz. Her lawyers presented a forensic reconstruction saying Exum fired five shots into her car and say they have enough evidence for criminal charges. The U.S. Attorney’s office dropped its assault case against her about two months after the shooting; no federal agent has been charged.
