Chicago's ‘Worst of the Worst’ Operation Was More Publicity Than Reality, Sun-Times Analysis Finds
Federal officials repeated one mantra through the 68 most intense days of Operation Midway Blitz, which began September 8: agents were hunting the “worst of the worst” criminals living in the United States without legal status. Hundreds of armed and masked agents from across the country deployed to Chicago streets. A Chicago Sun-Times review of the operation's actual results found the enforcement surge swept up far more people without serious criminal records than the publicity campaign suggested.
