Diana Acosta Verde entered the United States six months pregnant so her child would be born a U.S. citizen. After giving birth, she was separated from her newborn and returned to immigration detention while the baby remained at the hospital. Her case is one of a growing number in which ICE and CBP have separated mothers from their U.S.-citizen infants during postpartum detention.
