Argentine Semi-Pro Soccer Player Detained by ICE at Fort Lauderdale Airport

Miami United FC midfielder Matías Alejandro Pourrain, 34, was detained by ICE agents at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on August 6 as he traveled with his team to the UPSL National Championship Final in Los Angeles. DHS said Pourrain was admitted legally in November 2019 and overstayed his authorized period; his family says he held a work permit and Social Security number and was awaiting a pending asylum appointment. He was taken to the Glades County Detention Center.
