An investigation by KFF Health News and The Associated Press found that detainees across at least 33 states allege ICE detention facilities are failing to provide adequate medical care, with medications for conditions including diabetes, epilepsy, HIV, and Parkinson’s withheld for weeks. The analysis of thousands of habeas corpus filings comes as ICE detention topped 75,000 people in mid-January — up from roughly 40,000 a year earlier — and after the Department of Homeland Security shut its immigration detention ombudsman’s office in early May.
