‘Alligator Alcatraz’ Could Be Emitting Hundreds of Tons of Toxic Gases, New Filing Alleges
The Center for Biological Diversity filed a new motion in federal court in the Southern District of Florida alleging that the state-run “Alligator Alcatraz” detention site is pumping hundreds of tons of toxic gases into the Everglades without a permit. The filing asks the court to declare that Florida emergency managers have violated environmental statutes by operating the facility’s generators and infrastructure outside permitted emission limits.
