Legal Agreement Stalls Immigrant Detention Center in Surprise
The Department of Homeland Security will not begin converting a warehouse in Surprise into an immigration detention center until an environmental review is completed, under a new legal agreement between the agency and Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. Mayes sued the Trump administration in April to stop the conversion of the 418,000-square-foot warehouse, which sits roughly 300 yards from homes and about a mile from a high school.
