Detainees Launch Hunger Strike Over Inhumane Conditions at Adelanto ICE Facility
At least 20 immigrants detained at the GEO Group-run Adelanto ICE Processing Center in Southern California launched a hunger strike to protest conditions including medical neglect, mold, dirty water, and reduced food rations. Detainees said they often wait weeks or months for medical appointments that last about a minute and end with Tylenol or a salt packet, and they demanded that GEO Group remove mold, improve drinking water, and provide timely care for people with chronic conditions. The strikers also pledged a commissary boycott. Four people died at Adelanto between September 2025 and March 2026, according to the California Department of Justice.
