ACLU Report: 252 Enforcement Actions at Workplaces, 624 in Everyday Public Places

The ACLU documented 252 enforcement actions at places of work — car washes, restaurants and food stands, landscaping and construction sites, ride-share pickup lots, outside home improvement stores where day laborers seek work, and a barbershop — of which 20 were formal worksite enforcement. A further 624 took place in everyday locations: sidewalks, bus stops, gas stations, grocery stores, malls, wildlife reserves and highways. In New Orleans-area Home Depot and Lowe’s parking lots agents targeted day laborers, in one case pointing a gun at workers standing beside their cars; in Baltimore agents jumped from a pickup truck and detained five day laborers, tackling and pinning them. In Louisiana, the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries became a feeder for immigration enforcement, with wildlife officers checking fishing permits while federal agents checked immigration status.
